MEDIA RELATED ACTIVITIES. On two occasions prior to the workshop, key workshop participants were interviewed on national television, both on shows of the ABS CBN network, regarding Overseas Filipino issues, and specifically on the economic empowerment of migrants and the objectives of the Davao workshop. These were (1) An interview on May 7, with hosts Randy David and Atty. Katrina Legarda, on their Sunday show “Public Forum”, with ERCOF Chair Ildefonso Bagasao, the workshop keynote speaker Boypee Panganiban, workshop facilitators Ellene Sana, Advocacy Officer of Kakammpi, Malou Alcid, Executive Director of Kanlungan Center, and Ms. Tina Liamzon, Secretary of ERCOF as panelists. (2) An interview of the same panelists on May 8, with host Ces Drilon on her show “Point Blank”, On the first day of the workshop and before the opening ceremonies, a press conference was conducted by journalists of the Philippine News Agency with panelists Undersecretary Merlin Magallona , Boypee Panganiban, President of the Central Luzon Federation of Rural Banks and keynote speaker, Ildefonso Bagasao, Chair of ERCOF, Ms. Tina Liamzon, Secretary of ERCOF, and Leila Rispens Noel of Novib. Journalists who participated in the press conference continued to cover major parts of the conference. The conference was also covered by Jeremaiah Opiniano, the journalist head of the Migrants Desk of the Institute of Church and Social Issues (ICSI). Workshop-related articles appeared in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Business Star, Cyberdyaryo, the Manila Times and the Arab News, before and after the workshop.
